World Book Day
The day started off with the children all very excited sharing their characters and enjoying the guessing game of who was who?
Indeed all parents need to be congratulated for the tremendous support and work that went into character outfits complete with books. It is days like these that the children will remember and hopefully learn about new authors and book titles. Thank you.
The children all came to the hall for a World Book Day Assembly. There was discussion on Top Tips for Reading and some authors online shared their Top Tips for Reading. Also the children shared where they liked to read and authors shared their favourite places for Reading.
All staff then shared the book that their character was from and why they liked that book.
The books that were on sale for the £1 token were highlighted to the children do that they could makes choices when spending their £1.
Also at assembly the children in Upper Key Stage 2 got to see the titles of new novels purchased for their class and all older novels replaced with fresher copies for Yr 4-7. This was from School funds.
After Assembly every class rotated around the school enjoying a shared story from each class teacher. The children responded amazingly and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the stories and the interaction / discussion afterwards.
Stories included Mrs Armitage on Wheels by Quentin Blake, extracts from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by R. Dahl, BFG by R. Dahl.
Other Stories included Tweeny Weeny Genie by J. Donaldson/ A Currey and from one of the featured 2025 World Book Day authors, Paddy Donnelly, who grew up in Ballycastle and his books feature heavily on the nature around the area called The Golden Hare.
The story of Smed and Smoo by J. Donaldson and A Scheffler and a variety of poetry by R Dahl were all shared and discussed with the children.
The children also listened to the story of Huff by E Mc Laughlin/P Dunbar and Mr and Mrs Lovey-Dovey and the Sea of Tears by D. Walliams.
Some classes participated in a selection of World Book Day activities - My Reading Doodles, Book Recommendations Fortune Teller.
A very enjoyable and worthwhile day as it was great to share and learn from others. Some fantastic reading happening and great book titles shared.
