St.Brigid’s Day
Thursday 1st February marks the beginning of a year to celebrate the 1500th anniversary of the death of St. Brigid. To celebrate this day the children enjoyed an assembly on St Brigid and listened to the story of Brigid’s Cloak.
They also had a go at making St. Brigid’s crosses. Each child will take their cross to Mass on Thursday so that it can be blessed. The custom is that the crosses can be hung in every house or shed to keep fire and illness away from the occupants.
We especially thank Brigid and Pauline for generously giving their time and expertise in helping the children make St Brigid’s crosses. These are memories which will be treasured by their grandchildren and the rest of the children.
Hopefully the children will continue this Irish custom and value their culture. This is a skill for life!
Thank you to everyone who brought in rushes and shared with others.
Have a lovely St Brigid’s Day everyone.
