Matthew McBride Memorial Football Tournament
What a fantastic day we had at the Tournament today. It was a great way to mark Matthew’s birthday. The sun was shining and the array of colour was a sight to behold. The children were so excited as they got to wear the beautiful football jerseys designed by the Mc Bride Family and donated to the school. The jerseys were trimmed in orange Matthew’s favourite colour and had the number 8 printed on them to remind us of the age Matthew was when he went to heaven.
Teams from Gortin, Dunamanagh and Greencastle took part in the Tournament. Every school went back with a prize.
The children from St.Brigid’s joined with St Peter’s and together they won the P4/5 Matthew Memorial Shield and it was only fitting that Grace, Matthew’s little sister collected the prize.
The P.6/7 class received lovely medals.
No doubt every child will have lasting memories of this special day for our community.
Thank you to the Mc Bride family on their meticulous planning, not to mention the constant treats throughout the day!
Thank you also to Glenelly GFC - referees, umpires, linesmen, past pupil stars etc. It was a lovely community event. A special thank you to Paddy Nicholas who with his team organized the event alongside Matthew’s family.
It was indeed a privilege to be on the pitch to remember Matthew.
