Harvest Time
Last week we finally enjoyed the fruits (or veg) of our labour, as we harvested our vegetables from the school garden. At the end of last year we planted potatoes, carrots, red and white onions and some lettuce. Assisted by Annie Mullan we spent the morning planting and labelling everything we were hoping to grow. The lettuce was ready before the holidays, but everything else we would have to wait for.
It really was worth the wait! We had a plentiful harvest that hadn’t spoiled at all. We had some fantastic potatoes and carrots and fresh onions too. The smells we experienced were super. Everyone enjoyed getting stuck in and getting their hands dirty. After collecting all of our veg, we washed it and left it over with P1/2. Ms Gallagher ensured that before Maths Week was over they would sort, classify and count the vegetables.
P1/2 then had the opportunity to bag and take some vegetables home to try for their dinner. The plan was that any leftovers would then be given to the other classes... Let’s just say that we hope P1/2 enjoyed all that they got. Dani and Casi even sent a lovely photo of them with their dinner.
Next year we hope to have even more to enjoy. Well done girls and boys.
