A visit to Butterlope Farm for P5-7 children
31st Oct 2024
Our pupils from primaries 5-7 recently enjoyed a visit to Butterlope Farm. The children had a fantastic time learning about farming in the past, alongside how woollen products are created from fleece to knitting, different breeds of sheep, growing vegetables, harvesting and the natural light cycle for hens and ducks.
The boys and girls were treated to an array of practical activities including making hay, spinning wool, collecting eggs, using microscopes to view stomata on leaves, creating clay ornaments, tasting various species of vegetation alongside petting the young calves.
Thank you to Annie, Vinny, Leo and Lynn for sharing all their expertise with our farmers of the future. We had a fantastic trip and gained an insight into life as a farmer in the beautiful surroundings of the Sperrin mountains.
